Executive Career Advisory
for Professionals 50+

Your experience isn't the problem. Your job search strategy may be. Private 1-on-1 advisory for executives and professionals 50+ — from someone who has spent decades on the hiring side of the table.

Mike Maffei — Executive Career Advisor
The hiring market has fundamentally changed. The rules that built your career may not be the rules that will advance it.

Today's hiring process looks very different from the one many experienced professionals encountered earlier in their careers. Technology now plays a major role in how candidates are found, screened and evaluated.

LinkedIn is still a primary networking tool, but many other options are now available. AI has transformed the job search. Resumes are searched and reviewed differently. Recruiters increasingly source candidates rather than simply waiting for applications. And competition for senior-level positions can be significant.

For professionals with 20, 25 or 30+ years of experience, the challenge isn't simply having the right qualifications. It's knowing how to position that experience for today's market.

That's where many accomplished professionals get stuck. They continue using a job search strategy that worked earlier in their careers—but the market around them has changed.

Decades on the Other Side of the Hiring Table

My approach to executive career coaching and job search advisory comes from the hiring side of the table. For more than 30 years, I've worked in recruiting, human resources and executive leadership, evaluating candidates, counseling executives and experienced professionals, and making hiring decisions. Today, I remain directly involved in the hiring market as the Founding Partner of AlediumHR, a national healthcare recruiting firm.

Over the course of my career, I've evaluated thousands of candidates and counseled thousands of executives and experienced professionals on hiring, career and professional decisions. My experience includes senior HR and recruiting leadership with major organizations, including Caterpillar, Sodexo and The Home Depot. When I evaluate a resume, LinkedIn profile or job search strategy, I'm looking at it through the same lens employers and recruiters use every day.

This Is for You If...

If the experience is there but interviews are not, the problem may be how that experience is being positioned, presented or interpreted by employers.

A transition can create pressure to start applying immediately. A clearer positioning and search strategy can help make the next move more deliberate.

Recruiting and hiring have changed significantly. A search approach that worked earlier in a career may not reflect how employers and recruiters identify candidates today.

Experience can be an advantage, but how that experience is framed matters. The goal is to make depth of experience feel relevant to what an employer needs today.

Sometimes the issue is not the experience itself. It is how clearly employers can connect that experience to the problems they need someone to solve now.

The assessment comes from decades of evaluating candidates, leading recruiting and HR organizations, making hiring decisions and remaining active in today's hiring market.

The Executive Job Search Strategy Session is designed for experienced professionals and executives, particularly those 50+, who want an experienced hiring-side perspective on their positioning, resume, LinkedIn profile and overall job-search strategy. Clients who want my hands-on help implementing those recommendations can choose Executive Strategy Implementation, an optional 30-day engagement available after the Strategy Session for $795.

Executive Strategy Implementation is for clients who have completed the Strategy Session and want help putting the recommendations into practice. The 30-day engagement includes hands-on work with executive positioning, resume revision and rewriting, LinkedIn headline, About and positioning changes, and alignment between the resume, LinkedIn profile and overall search strategy. An organization can provide it as part of a severance agreement, leadership transition, restructuring or other employment separation without placing the executive into a large standardized outplacement program.

Yes. The advisory relationship is between the executive and me. The sponsoring employer may receive confirmation that the executive has enrolled and is participating, but the substance of our advisory conversations, job-search activity and career decisions remains confidential.

No. MikeMaffei.com provides executive career advisory and job-search strategy services. What Clients Are Saying

Experienced professionals face unique challenges in today's job market. Here's what clients say about taking a different approach.

"Thanks, Mike, for all your help and assistance in my job search. I now recognize that I was approaching the job market the same way I had always done, and it wasn't working. You gave me a much clearer strategy for positioning my experience and focusing my search."

— SVP, Healthcare Operations, Age 57

"Mike understands what experienced professionals like me over 50 are facing in today's job market. His advice was real-world, not some textbook garbage. He was practical, direct, and based on his real executive experience. It was refreshing, to say the least, to hear things I hadn't even thought about."

— Senior Operations Executive, Age 61

"I had been job searching for over a year, with very few replies or even interviews. I knew my age was a factor, but after speaking with Mike, it was obvious that I was positioning myself entirely the wrong way. I know there is age discrimination, but I also know what I can provide an employer. Mike helped me to realign my search, and now I am employed in an even better position than before."

— Senior Sales Executive, Age 54
